PSYBT supported business and Board Member Michelle Mone, was honoured as part of the annual awards by Glasgow's Lord Provost Bob Winter. She received the Lord Provost's award for business. Michelle Mone is the co-owner of MJM International and creator of Ultimo, the UK’s leading designer lingerie brand.
Michelle is listed as one of the top three female entrepreneurs in the UK. She began employment in sales and marketing, however after a ‘lightbulb’ moment with her husband Michael, they set up their business in November 1996, with a £5,000 loan and support from PSYBT. Since launching the business Michelle has established herself as one of Scotland’s biggest exports. In 2000 she won ‘World Young Business Achiever Award’ and ‘Business Woman of the Year’. Ultimo holds eight worldwide patented inventions and MJM International currently supply Tesco, Debenhams, Asda, Next, Figleaves and Asos.com, along with a number of independent lingerie stores throughout Europe.
Other winners included Robbie Coltrane who was honoured for his contribution to the performing arts. He said "It is always a pleasure to get any award, of course, but this is just terrific, a gong from The Lord Provost, is a gong from Glasgow.”
The Lord Provost's awards honour men and women who have dedicated their professional lives to public service, worked selflessly for their communities or distinguished themselves in business, the arts, sport or entertainment.
Scottish-based charity Mary's Meals was presented with the evening's top award, the Loving Cup. The Loving Cup is one of the city's highest honours and is presented to any person or group who have brought "distinction and honour to Glasgow".
