  • Over a hundred young entrepreneurs, who decided to start a micro-business without any sustainable growth funding, have been identified with creating over 2000 jobs in Scotland and generating a combined turnover exceeding £157million. 

    The research, which has been commissioned by the Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust (PSYBT) to identify its ‘Top 100 Best Performing Businesses in Scotland,’ shows youth enterprise in Scotland is having a demonstrable positive impact on Scotland’s economy, not least in creating wealth and employment in local communities.

    The Lord Provost's Charity Banquet was held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on Tuesday 20 March 2012, attended by 340 guests.
    HRH The Princess Royal was the guest of honour and speeches were delivered by the Lord Provost, Giovanni Benedetti CBE, and David Tolley.

  • Collaboration Prize

    Co-operative Development Scotland (CDS) is offering £30,000 worth of cash and support to develop new consortium co-operatives in Scotland.


    The inaugural Collaboration Prize aims to encourage businesses to consider working with others to form a new consortium co-operative. Co-operatives are collaborative vehicles that play an important role in creating globally competitive businesses. They enable employees, businesses and communities to work together to fulfil shared interests.

  • 27 year old, Susan Ramsey has won Top Tech Tip & Overlay of the Year in the newcomer’s category in the Scottish Nail Technician of the Year Awards 2012 at the Scottish Beauty Awards on 25th March.


    Susan who has a diploma in Nail Art and recently completed a Master Art Tech course, runs her business, Pro-file within Kazmark Hair Studio in Irvine. She decided to become self-employed 3 years ago after the birth of her daughter. Before becoming pregnant she had been working in another salon in Ayr but needed more flexibility so decided to start her own business.

    The Converge Challenge offers staff, postgraduate and final year undergraduate students in Scottish Universities, the opportunity of business mentorship and training. If you are a budding entrepreneur and are at a Scottish University, you could get a £25,000 cash boost to help get your promising business off the ground.

  • PSYBT is pleased to announce a new partnership agreement with private bank Brown Shipley.


    Over the next three years, Brown Shipley will donate £15,000 to support PSYBT in helping young entrepreneurs to start up and continue in business.


    At an event held to celebrate Brown Shipley’s Edinburgh office move to 2 Multrees Walk, adjacent to the city’s traditional financial centre in St Andrew Square, Robert Kitchen Brown Shipley’s Executive Director, presented a cheque for the first year of support to Geoff Leask, PSYBT Director.

  • The Good Travel Company

    Vanessa Good, 25, is the founder and director of The Good Travel Company. She discovered her passion for business and travel when returning home to Ayrshire in 2009 after living in Australia. Met by Ayrshire in deep recession with many friends unable to find work or facing unemployment, she got involved in the family’s finance and foreign exchange company setting out to develop the business and ‘get creative’ when times were tough. This is where the idea of starting a travel business came to light.

PSYBT Awards

Shoe designer Emily Lamb has been nominated for a Scottish Variety Award under the ‘Best new Scottish Artist or Designer’ category. Emily was funded by PSYBT in 2010 and her hand made shoes have been very well received by those in the fashion industry. After Graduating from Cordwainers, part of the London College of Fashion which specialises in footwear, she decided to launch her own collection, ensuring every creation was unique with their own original feature and pattern.
