Ever wondered how an online company is created and the challenges the people behind these start ups face? How did Zuckerberg fair when faced with challenges in the creation of Facebook? Was there a point when the founders of Google nearly gave up? PSYBT funded business, RecommendedBy.co.uk are aiming to give people a true insight into the trials and tribulations of setting up an online enterprise by Tweeting about their start up journey.
The Edinburgh based creators of this new website, which allows students and student unions to share products through social media and be paid for everything they sell, are tweeting the highs and lows of starting an online company in the six weeks running up to their launch in mid August.
Creator Cally Russell, 23, and other members of the team will be tweeting every aspect of starting a new business including negotiating deals with companies (brands already on board include House of Fraser, Lovefilm and Play.com), the difficulties in building an entirely new type of website, controlling costs, pitching to student unions across the UK and the general highs and lows that young people experience when setting up a company.
Commenting on the process of setting up Cally said “Creating a company, especially for young people, at any time is difficult but in the face of a recession it truly is a daunting prospect. By tweeting throughout our set up period and sharing our experience, we hope to encourage others to start something for themselves and offer people a valuable insight into what it takes to start an online company. We strongly believe that RecommendedBy is very useful for students and student unions across the UK in a time when their resources and budgets and being stretched like never before.”
He continues “We always see online successes from the US come to the UK but we are going to try and reverse this process. We aim to export a unique way for people to help their friends save, whilst also earning money for themselves and it is also a great opportunity to improve their CV.”
RecommendedBy.co.uk goes live in mid August. Follow the setting up of the company on Twitter @RecommendedByUK and register an interest to get involved at RecommendedBy.co.uk now.
