Strung Out Guitars has become the latest PSYBT backed business to start giving back to the Charity on a regular basis. The company was established by Guitar Making college buddies Louise Carruthers and Paula Russell 8 years ago after they met studying Stringed Instrument Repair at Anniesland College in Glasgow.
After moving to London and completing HND's in Musical Instrument Technology at London Guildhall University they both worked as self-employed Guitar Technicians and Repairers. Then in 2003 with the support of PSYBT Louise and Paula established Strung Out Guitars in the heart of Glasgow’s Merchant City. It is an independently run Guitar Shop and Guitar Repair Workshop specialising in Second Hand and Vintage Guitars and Amps and of course - Guitar Repairs!
Some of the girls’ well known clients include : Franz Ferdinand, Snow Patrol, Sons and Daughters, The Killers, Idlewild, The Proclaimers, Gordon Brown (the then Chancellor chose 2 ukuleles for his sons), and Prince Charles was personally given a Strung Out plectrum!
After all this success both Louise and Paula were really keen to help other young people to get the funding they need to start up in business. Said Louise “we’ve had a lot of help from PSYBT over the years and now feel it’s the right time to start giving back. We remember what it was like starting out and that initial support really is so important - we wouldn’t be in business if it wasn’t for PSYBT”
The Guitar Repair Workshop is still at the very heart of the business. Louise and Paula love guitars and believe every guitar should be set up to play like a dream, regardless of make, model or price. So, if you love guitars, check out their shop!
