Fife’s only networking club for young people in business is proving popular with young entrepreneurs. The Elevator Club run by PSYBT met at Cluny Clays in November and was attended by 12 enterprising young people who have been supported to start up in business by PSYBT.
November’s guest speaker was Austin McPhee who set up AM sportstours and soccer school with support from PSYBT in 2006. Austin shared his experiences of growing and developing his company into a market leader which now employs 6 full time and 18 part time staff. Austin spoke openly about the tactics that helped secure his first customers for the sports tours. He continues to use the same strategy today and always arranges a face to face meeting with a potential customer if possible. He encouraged the young people in business to develop their business strengths to make sure their business reaches its full potential.
The evening included an “In the Hot Seat” business challenge and John McRitchie of Dunfermline answered questions from the club members on how he has developed his traditional carpentry business during his first 2 years of trading. John says “PSYBT helped me with funding to get the equipment required to get my business started and joining the Elevator Club is a great way to learn more skills to help make the business successful and meet other young people in business”.
Ross Cunningham of Cunningham Video Productions delivered the winning pitch in the “Pitch your Business Competition” and won a gift bag and voucher kindly donated by Kirsty Patrick of Reflections Hair and Beauty in Burntisland.
Elevator, which is supported by The New Park Educational Trust, is free to join for anyone aged between 18 and 30 who is in business in Fife or would like to be. The next meeting will take place on Tuesday 31st January at Cluny Clays, Kirkcaldy, 6pm-9pm.
