Alan Moore Unveils New ten30 Collection

One of Scotland's most promising new designers, Alan Moore, unveiled his brand new ten30 collection in a stunning show featuring live musical performances from Gillian Frame and Mark Brendan Farmer from The 17th Century last month (October) at the Malmaison Hotel, Glasgow.

This season's range is an exploration of contrasting high quality fabrics and textures, with an underlying Scottish theme. With support from the Harris Tweed Authority, for Autumn/Winter 2011 ten30 designs will feature Garynahine Harris Tweed, as manufactured on the Isle of Lewis by local independent Harris Tweed producer John R MacLean.

The ten30 collection is available for purchase on the brand's website.

During his time studying at the prestigious Glasgow School of Art, Alan worked for Laura Lees in London during preparations for London Fashion Week. Graduating in 2008, he began designing for his own label, and ten30 was born. The brand focuses on beautiful, wearable women's clothing with a spotlight on surface textiles and textures.

Each collection by ten30 has a strong concept with each garment telling a piece of the story. For the new Autumn/Winter 2011 offering Alan has been influenced by strong female characters in old gangster films, such as Karen Hill in Goodfellas, Ginger from Casino and Elvira Hancock from Scarface. The designer admits he finds himself intrigued by their love of money, power and trouble; which often proves to be the demise of their male counterparts.

This year has been a time of growth and development for the brand, including showing on Madison Avenue at a Textiles Scotland pop-up store in New York as featured on Vogue.com, as part of the annual Scotland Week celebrations. A bespoke piece was also created for the Dressed to Kilt event in collaboration with Biggar based mill, Calzeat & Co, which featured an elaborately embroidered jacket teamed with a herringbone pure wool dress. Alan was also the recipient of the Best New Scottish Designer award at the Scottish Variety Awards, as hosted by Clyde1. His Spring/Summer collection entitled 'The Ukranian Girl' was debuted in an unconventional show in Glasgow venue the Flying Duck, where instead of using runway models, Alan opted for ballet dancers who showcased the items on a dance floor, in a series of pirouettes and poses.
